About this tour

This hike takes us along the coast of the Beagle Channel, through Fuegian coastal forests and landscapes where the sea, mountains and forest come together. The area is also part of a rich cultural heritage, having been inhabited for more than 6,000 years by nomadic Indigenous peoples and canoeists.

The hike begins at the end of the road leading to Playa Larga, in an area known as La Baliza de Escarpados, approximately 10 km from Ushuaia.

From there, the trail follows the coast of the Onashaga (Beagle Channel), passing through Patagonian coastal forests and offering beautiful views of the channel and surrounding mountains. Along the way, there is also the possibility of spotting different bird species and, occasionally, coastal and marine wildlife.

After approximately 2.2 km, we reach the historic Estancia Túnel, established around 1900 and associated with important archaeological research carried out in the area during the 1970s.

For those who wish to extend the hike, it is possible to continue from Estancia Túnel to the Encajonado River. This option adds approximately 3 km each way to the route. Please inquire about availability and conditions for this extension.

At the end of the hike, we visit the Playa Larga Natural and Cultural Reserve, a provincial protected area and a popular place for locals to enjoy nature and the surroundings of the Beagle Channel.

Base trekking distance: 2.2 km each way to Estancia Túnel.
Optional extension: 3 km each way to the Encajonado River.
